Learn more about our Police Department
'Calls for Service' are a measure of activity by police officers and may be generated by both 911 calls or the proactive action by officers.
Calls for service are not confirmed crimes and include a diverse array of police activity within the community, including welfare checks, traffic hazards, special events, and processing vehicle towing information.
For more information on calls for service, including a breakdown of the problems being dealt with and the locations of calls, visit our Call for Service Statistics Dashboard.
Arrest figures by month include both adult arrests and juvenile detentions.
Jail stay time includes only adult arrests, as only adults are admitted to the jail.
Demographic breakdowns of arrests include both adult arrests and juvenile detentions.
Response times measure the average duration from when a call for service is first received by a call taker to when the first patrol unit arrives on scene. This average is calculated based on all calls for service where a unit successfully responds.
Lewisville Police Department categorizes crime reports using the FBI's National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS).
'Group A crimes' includes all incidents used by NIBRS to calculate a jurisdiction's crime rate. A full list of NIBRS Group A offenses can be found on the FBI website.
Officers may initiate a traffic stop for various lawful reasons, including the enforcement of moving violations (such as speeding or failure to signal), vehicle equipment violations (such as broken tail lights or expired registration), or based on reasonable suspicion that the vehicle or its occupants are involved in criminal activity.
The locations of all traffic stops over the last 90 days can be seen on our Call for Service Statistics Dashboard.

How is "CID Detectives Solve Rate" calculated?
This metric looks at cases assigned to CID detectives and closed in the previous calendar month. A cases is considered "solved" if it is "cleared by arrest" meaning that a person was either arrested, charged, or otherwise turned over to court for prosecution, or "cleared by exceptional means" meaning that the offender was identified and their location was known; there was sufficient evidence to support an arrest, charge or otherwise turning over to court for prosecution; however, circumstances outside of law enforcement control prohibited prosecution. This is consistent with the FBI's NIBRS definition of a "cleared" offense.
What are "CID Detectives"?
"CID" stands for "Criminal Investigation Department". The unit is the main investigative unit, made up of persons crimes and property crimes detectives, who investigate most of the offenses that require deeper examination beyond initial reports or an immediate arrest.
How often are the statistics updated?
Most metrics are updated daily. Some metrics refer to "last month", meaning the previous calendar month, and will posted on the first day of the subsequent calendar month.
